Sealmastic 520 W/P Emulsion

W.R. Meadows Sealmastic 520 Waterproofing Emulsion is a mineral colloid waterproofing emulsion for use as a damp-proof coating. With the addition of reinforcing fabric, it can also be used as a waterproofing coating. Particularly suited for use on PWF foundation or over Styrofoam or any substrates, which would be subject to breakdown with the use of cutback asphalt coatings. Size: 20 L.

Applications

Sealmastic 520 Waterproofing Emulsion is designed for use on concrete, wood, masonry, gypsum, insulation of all types, and asbestos. It is used for damp-proofing and waterproofing bridge decks, split slab floors, parking decks, foundation walls and footings. Sealmastic 520 Waterproofing Emulsion is a versatile damp-proofing material and is compatible with Styrofoam,

Limitations

It is a water/asphalt emulsion and will freeze. Do not allow to freeze.

Standards

Complies with CAN/CGSB-37.2-M88. TO be applied according to CAN/CGSB-37.3-M89. Reinforcing fabric for use with waterproofing emulsion should meet CGSB 37-GP-63M,

Preparatory Work

Surface should be firm and free from loose particles, cracks, grease, oil, frost, ice, and other foreign matter. Surface may be damp, but not wet. Prime with 50% diluted Sealmastic 520. Dilute with clean water only.

Safety Precautions

Harmful if swallowed

Working Characteristics
  • Coverage Damp-proofing: 2sq.m/L (100sq.ft/L)
  • Coverage Water-Proofing: 1 sq.m/L/ply (50 sq.ft/gal/ply)
The number of plies will depend on the depth of the structure below grade. The following is suggested:
  • Depth to 3m (9.8 ft): 2 plies
  • Depth to 6m (19.7 ft): 3 plies
  • Depth to 9m (29.5 ft): 4 plies
For depths greater than 9m (29.5 ft) add one ply for each additional 3m (9.8 ft). This table is a guide only. Individual design analysis is required. Waterproofing emulsion can be sprayed;please consult technical representative for recommended equipment.

Installation instructions

Damp-Proofing
  •  Mix thoroughly
  • Apply by brush, trowel, glove or sprayer at a minimum rate of 4.1sq.m/L (200sq.ft./gal)
  • Protect uncured emulsion from precipitation
  • Protect walls with protection board during backfill operations.

Water-Proofing

  • Mix thoroughly
  • Apply by brush, trowel, glove, or sprayer at a minimum rate of 1.5sq.m/L (75 sq.ft/gal)
  • Embed a ply of reinforcing fabric into the emulsion, lap edges 50 mm (2")
  • Apply another coat of emulsion, make sure that no fabric is showing
  • Continue this program until the required number of plies have be applied
  • No ply of reinforcing should be applied until the preceding ply is dry.
  • Protect uncured emulsion from precipitation
  • Protect walls with protection board during backfill operations
  • Use water for cleanup of uncured emulsion
  • Use mineral spirits for cleanup of cured emulsion.
